How can I start swimming again? I used to swim as a kid but stopped after puberty. Now that I’m on birth control, it’s not an issue anymore. I already go to the gym three times a week. How did swimming affect your physique and health, and any tips on getting started would be great!
Join a local swim club or find a swim buddy for motivation. A community can help you stay consistent, and sharing progress with others is fun!
It’s great to hear you are starting again! Consider taking some swim lessons to refresh your technique. Swimming complements gym workouts by enhancing flexibility and endurance, helping build a lean, toned physique. Gradually increase your pool time and listen to your body.
I like using a kickboard and flippers. Freestyle helps with breathing, while paddles strengthen my triceps. Kickboards are fun, and swimming overall is relaxing.
I love swimming; it’s great for both body and mind. If you haven’t learned yet, consider taking lessons for safety. If that’s not an option, choose a pool with lifeguards, stick to the shallow end, and go slowly.
During adult swim times, practice floating in the shallow end. Imagine the water as a mattress and use your belly and lungs to float. Exhale to sink and inhale to rise. Extra body fat can help with floating, plus sometimes I float just for fun!
What’s stopping you? Swimming is just another exercise. Start with small goals and increase as you get comfortable. As an endurance athlete, I used to have swim days, combining laps with weight training.
Be cautious: swimming burns many calories as your body works hard to stay warm in the water, so you might get very hungry afterward. If you are aiming for weight loss, be mindful not to overeat.
Since you have experience swimming, you likely have some technique already. However, refreshing your skills or taking a few lessons can be beneficial. Improving your form can make swimming more enjoyable and effective.
It might sound silly, but I watched YouTube videos and practiced swimming early when the pool was empty. I loved it as a kid, but I haven’t swum for the past few years. Why? Lack of access to a pool.
Not silly at all! I have been using the same approach to get back into swimming
Following for this!
The Myswimpro app has been fantastic in helping me return to swimming. I’m familiar with the techniques, but back when I was learning, I relied on YouTube tutorials to master different strokes.
Start slowly by beginning with shorter sessions in the pool, and gradually increase the duration as you become more comfortable and confident.
The best way to begin is simply by getting in the pool and swimming. If you swam as a child, your muscle memory might come back, and you’ll likely be able to do some freestyle. You can do it!
If it’s energy you needed to start, here’s it!
